Journal Entry

2000 – 2005

I was mentally exhausted. I laid down, ready to face that period in my life where I went from being naïve to whatever was worse. I was fooled into thinking I knew Milo. I was hoping I could get through this and the rest of my life without falling apart.

One day in August, maybe two weeks before we were to leave for Thailand, Milo came to me. I remember this because Milo actually seemed to care about me again. He basically ignored me up to this point. He was always with those women.

“Can I have a word with you?” Milo asked, standing in my door frame. He looked so good, bare-chested and in his gym shorts.

I sat up and nodded yes.

He came and sat next to me. He seemed solemn, like something was bothering him. I hoped he wasn’t going to cancel our trip. I was looking forward to some alone time with him.

He looked down at the floor. “I know you’ve not been happy lately. I know it’s because of me. I’m sorry. Sage, everything that you think is going on really isn’t.”

“Milo what’s that supposed to mean? You, Skye and Jewel seem quite happy without me.”

“Sage, it was all a show. It wasn’t supposed to go down like it did. You were supposed to like them. I was trying to find out where your head was. Nothing happened like it should have.”

“Milo, what are you talking about? What was supposed to happen?”

He looked up at me. “You were supposed to want to be like them. You were supposed to ask questions. Remember that day when you asked why they would be hanging out in a gay bar looking for a straight guy? I thought you were trying to be a smart ass. I didn’t believe you didn’t know about them.

“Milo, you’re talking in circles. Know what about them?”

“They are trans women.”

I had learned enough from going to gay clubs to know what a trans woman was. I met a few at the clubs, but they were no way near as good looking as women as Jewel and Skye. The other trans women looked okay, but there was something about them that held on to their masculinity. I was speechless from what Milo told me. After me looking like a deer in headlights, “Really?” was I could come up with.

“Yeah. I made a lot of mistakes. I should have just talked to you instead of using them to see if you’d be comfortable as a trans.”

“What?” I raised my voice a little.

He raised his eyebrow at my tone. “Sage, I like you, but my parents would not be okay with me dating a man. I wanted Jewel and Skye to find out how you’d feel being trans. I never really dated Skye. I just wanted to show you how we could move around as a heterosexual couple. No one has to know the truth. I even told Jewel and Skye a lie. They don’t know why I asked them to ask you all those questions.
